Keeping it in the Family by Jessica Meek

This chair has been on my to do list for quite some time, I have lot of ideas of projects for myself but other commissions generally get in the way of these being realised!

This chair was originally upholstered by my Grandma and I had always intended it to be the final piece for my upholstery course but my tutor told me the frame was unsuitable for traditional upholstery and was generally in such bad condition that it would never be made stable!

After replacing part of the frame and treating some woodworm, my stubbornness finally paid off and I started to reupholster the chair in some amazing curtains from the 50s, using the reverse side of the fabric for the back of the chair.

Im really thrilled with the result and glad that I managed to resurrect this seemingly hopeless heirloom!

Last Saturday I held a stall outside Threads Boutique on Bellenden Road, Peckham alongside the lovely woodworker Leoni Bullcock and Claire Thorp of Pica Pica, up-cycled ceramics and greeting cards.

Armchair Renewed! by Jessica Meek

The Armchair with the stowaway arm-table has been reupholstered in a Vintage William Morris print with green chenile panels and contrast piping.

It was barely on sale for a week at Threads, Bellenden Road SE15 before it was snapped up!

An Armchair with a secret... by Jessica Meek

Here is an armchair which I'm going to reupholster for Threads Vintage, Peckham. I like the way they've used different florals on the front and back but whoever tried to upholster this before seemed to have no previous experience!

In fact, it appears that it's been reupholstered four times without removing the previous fabrics!
